A FOCUS ON GLOBAL HUNGER RELIEF

Southern Baptists have always been concerned about the plight of world hunger.

In the mid-1970s, a worldwide food shortage caused us to develop an organized response to the problem.  We have served the hungry throughout history, but the first World Hunger Day in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) was in 1978.

SBC giving records for world hunger date back to at least 1977.  In 1997, a resolution passed by the SBC referred to the “world hunger fund”, an informal way of talking about money given to help conduct hunger ministries.

Only the offering for Global Hunger Relief uses 100% of all contributions to provide relief for hunger related causes, including not just food, but also clean water and education.  This is possible because of personnel are already in place and administrative and promotional costs come from other budgets.  The North American Mission Board receives 20 cents of  every dollar to support hunger projects in the United States.  Eighty cents of every dollar goes to  the International Mission Board to be used for
hunger relief, including water well drilling, agricultural education, water purification, etc.

When Southern Baptists give food or teach better ways to grow it, they are there for the long haul, seeking to build relationships with people and eventually lead them to a relationship with Christ.

In the world today …..

An estimated 1.02 billion people, or about one-sixth of the world’s population, are undernourished.  Every five seconds, a child dies from malnourishment.  In the United States alone, 49 million people - 17 million of whom are children - do not have enough to eat.  These are sobering facts for those of us who never miss a meal.  What can we do to help change these numbers?

We will receive banks back at the church on August 14th.  These may be left at the Welcome Center.

Women on Mission will meet Monday, August 8th at 6:00 p.m. at the church.  All ladies are invited to join us.

Church Family,

I hope you have all had a fantastic summer! I know these months have been busy, hectic, and HOT, but I pray your summer has been fruitful and encouraging. As the summer is winding down, I look forward to everything the Fall season will bring, not only in cooler weather (my favorite time of the year), but also is this next season of ministry in our Church. As we look towards the future, I believe God is going to move in mighty ways, as we worship and serve together.

There are a few things coming up in our music ministry that I want to let you in on: On Sunday Night, September 11th, we are planning a church-wide Night of Worship. This will be a night that brings us all together in one room, and will serve as a time of encouragement, hope, and renewal and we worship with our voices through song, and we come before God in prayer. I want to urge you and your family to be a part of this night. We have been planning, praying, and anticipating what God is going to do through this Night of Worship. Make plans to be there, I promise it will be worth your while!

Secondly, the schedule is drawing near to the most wonderful time of the year! Well, sort of. In the music ministry, we start Christmas time a little sooner than the rest, because we are getting ready for our Church-Wide Christmas Program! This year our Christmas Program will be featuring different elements of choir, a full instrumental band, and drama. We will be kicking rehearsals off in all of these areas in September, so if you are a part of any of these areas, be on the lookout for these dates very soon.

We have a lot coming up, and I love serving and leading along side each and every one of you. I am grateful to God everyday that I am allowed to be a part of what He is doing through our Church. I hope and pray that you would join us as we move forward. Don’t have a place to serve? Let us know, because we can assure you that there is a place for you. I love you all!

In Christ,
Jared
