When I first heard that Oak Hill Road was to be widened, my first thought was of the inconvenience (not to me so much, I live next door to the church) to church members and the neighborhood in general. I thought of the big oak tree near the Oak Hill entrance to the church (the only tree on our property.) My husband Raymond planted it about 50 years ago to provide shade for those watching softball games on our field. We had boys teams playing in a church league for a number of years (title IX had not caught up to us yet.)
I was just thinking of all the men and women who have invested in our children over the years at Oakhill. Through sports, AWANA, Upward, Sunday School, VBS, camp, and so much more. As a long time member, I would like to say thank you for your dedication to our youth over the years.
So far, the tree has survived!
