Going Beyond in 2026!

As we step into our 2026 theme of Going Beyond, we begin the year with a call to look outward and stretch our faith in new, meaningful ways. January’s focus—Going Beyond Ourselves—invites our church family to serve with purpose, love our community deeply, and share the hope of Christ through local evangelism. Together, we’ll discover what it means to move beyond comfort, beyond routine, and beyond self-interest to become the hands and feet of Jesus right where He has placed us.

B – Bear One Another’s Burdens (Galatians 6:2)
Paul reminds us that we fulfill the law of Christ when we willingly step into the struggles of others. Going beyond ourselves means refusing a shallow, distant faith and instead carrying the weight of grief, need, and hardship alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ.
E – Encourage One Another (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Encouragement is not optional for the church—it is essential. In a weary and uncertain world, believers are called to build one another up with words of hope rooted in the gospel and confidence in God’s promises.
Y – Yield to One Another in Humility (Ephesians 5:21)
Scripture calls us to “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Yielding is a mark of Christlike humility, choosing others above self, and gladly laying aside personal preferences for the good of the body.
O – Outdo One Another in Showing Honor (Romans 12:10)
Rather than competing for recognition, the church is called to compete in honor—eagerly recognizing the worth, gifts, and contributions of others. This posture reflects the heart of Christ, who humbled Himself to serve.
N – Nurture One Another in Love (Ephesians 4:15–16)
As we speak the truth in love, the body of Christ grows strong and mature. Nurturing one another requires patience, grace, and a commitment to spiritual growth, remembering that God uses the church to shape His people.
D – Devote Yourselves to One Another (Romans 12:10)
Biblical devotion goes beyond convenience. It is a steadfast commitment to love, serve, and walk together through every season of life, reflecting the covenant faithfulness of our God.

Going Beyond in 2026!

We are excited to explore Going Beyond Our Walls, inviting our church family to consider what it truly means to step outside the familiar and carry the gospel farther than ever before. This emphasis will move us toward the mission Jesus has entrusted to His church: loving our community, reaching the lost, and supporting gospel work around the world.

Evangelism

Christians must recognize that personal evangelism is not an optional add-on to the Christian life, but a natural overflow of a heart transformed by the gospel. When we truly grasp what Christ has done for us, it compels us to care deeply about those around us who do not yet know Him.

This begins with faithful prayer—regularly bringing before the Lord the names of family members, friends, neighbors, and coworkers who are spiritually lost, asking God to open their hearts and to give us love, boldness, and wisdom.

It also requires intentional preparation, knowing the gospel clearly enough to share it simply and faithfully when opportunities arise. God often uses ordinary conversations and everyday relationships as the means through which He draws people to Himself, and He calls His people to be ready and willing instruments in His hands, trusting that He alone gives the growth.

This year, we will place a strong emphasis on prayer—both in general and specifically for those we know who are lost. We will be intentional about praying for their salvation and asking God to open doors for us to share the gospel with them. Along with this focus on prayer, we will also provide opportunities to equip and prepare ourselves to share the gospel clearly and faithfully with those around us.

Local Missions

Community Outreach

Local Missions is our calling to bring the love of Christ directly into our community through hands-on service and meaningful relationships. Whether stocking shelves and serving families through our Food Pantry, joining our new Grill Walk ministry as we meet neighbors with food and gospel conversation, or investing in the lives of our community partners. Each opportunity allows us to make a real impact right where we live. By stepping into Local Missions, we extend the heart of Oakhill to become a visible expression of God’s compassion in our city.

Areas of Service Include:

  • Food Pantry – We serve as the hands and feet of Jesus (Matthew 25:34–40) by meeting physical needs with a three-day food supply while also pointing people to their greatest need: a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Each pantry day includes prayer, encouragement, and a time of worship centered on Jesus. The Food Pantry is open on the second and third Saturdays of each month, and we’re always welcoming new volunteers to serve.
  • Grill Walk - This is a new ministry starting up in 2026, and we couldn't be more excited! We will be visiting neighborhoods in our community and offering burgers to residents in hopes of sharing the gospel! Be on the lookout for evangelism training opportunities this year!
  • State Hospital - Fellowship and love on patients in the State Hospital. Volunteers mainly play Bingo for about an hour every second Tuesday of the month.
  • McGary Middle School - We have several individuals who take part in an Adventure Reading Club with the students on a bi-weekly basis. We also have teams who will help with special school events, such as back-to-school and movie nights.

National & International Missions

According to God’s Word, the Church, which means every believer together, not merely a select few, is designed to display God's glory to the whole world. The Great Commission directs every one of us to go throughout the whole world and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation and every person. This passion for spreading the gospel is the very core of Missions at Oakhill Baptist Church. Our purpose is to prepare our entire congregation to share the good news of the gospel with everyone they encounter. We desire for each member to develop a clear vision for reaching others with Christ—whether on a global scale, across our nation, or within our own local community. While the need is great, every single one of us can contribute in meaningful ways. All of us can PRAY, all of us can GIVE, and all of us can GO—whether that means crossing the street to our neighbors or traveling to the farthest corners of the earth.

Will you partner with us as we work together to overcome darkness through the powerful message of Jesus Christ? We warmly invite you to explore the ‘Going Beyond’ through national and international Missions opportunities listed below and discover how God may be calling you to participate.

  • We are currently in the planning stages to take a group of students on a national mission trip.
  • There are also two international mission trips planned for 2026. The first trip is scheduled for June to Lusaka, Zambia, in Africa, and the second will take place in the fall to Tokyo, Japan. We will GO to see, support, and assist our missionaries from Oakhill to advance the gospel.

Oakhill Serves

Oakhill Serves is our commitment to being an active, engaged church family—one where everyone has a place and a purpose. From Sunday mornings to weekday ministries and special events, we believe the church thrives when its people serve together. Whether welcoming guests, supporting our worship gatherings, or helping behind the scenes, every act of service helps our church run with excellence and creates an environment where lives can be changed. Oakhill Serves is more than volunteering; it’s stepping into the mission God has given us and playing a vital part in what He is doing in and through our church.

Areas of Service Include:

  • Chair Setup Teams - Teams meet on Friday evening or Saturday for about 30 - 45 minutes to prepare the Worship Center for Sunday morning services. We are currently on a five-week rotation for this group. This is a great way to begin serving in the church if you are looking for a place to plug in!
  • Van Ministry – This ministry helps ensure that anyone who wants to attend church but lacks transportation can still be part of our worship services. Volunteers make phone calls on Saturdays to confirm riders and plan the pickup route for Sunday morning. On Sunday, you’ll stop by the church to pick up a church van, then drive to collect riders and bring them to church in time for the 9:30 service.
  • Greeters - Welcome our church family and guests with a kind "good morning" and hand them a bulletin as they enter the worship center! We have two teams that greet for about 25 minutes before each of our services.
  • Welcome Desk - Serve as a friendly point of contact during our worship services! You will assist church families and guests by answering questions, providing directions, and helping with event sign-ups. We have individuals scheduled to "man the desk" during each of our services.
  • Coffee Bar - If you enjoy a good cup of coffee, this one is for you! Prepare our coffee for our worship services before the 8:00 service starts and refill as needed throughout the morning.
  • Safety Team - Help create a safe and warm environment for church attendees. We have a handful of individuals scheduled for each service to monitor the halls and the worship center. Training will be provided!
  • Event Set Up / Tear Down Team - We have so many special events throughout the year that require a little extra work! We are looking to form a list of people to call when it's time to set up and tear down! If you have the gift of serving, this one is for you!
  • Work Day Team - We occasionally have special projects around our church and are forming a list of those who might enjoy getting their hands dirty from time to time!
  • Lawn Mowing Team - During the warm months, we have teams on a monthly rotation to cut the grass at our North Campus. All of the supplies are provided; we just need the people! Training provided!

Family Ministries

Family Ministries is all about investing in the next generation by serving our children and students with love, encouragement, and biblical truth. From Sunday morning classes to Wednesday night programs, our children have regular opportunities to learn, grow, and experience God’s Word in a fun and meaningful way. Our students also gather on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and Sunday nights, creating multiple spaces for discipleship, connection, and service. Whether teaching, assisting, mentoring, or simply showing up with a heart to serve, being part of Family Ministries allows you to help shape young lives and support families as they grow in their faith.

Areas of Service Include:

  • Children's Ministry* - Opportunities to serve include Sunday morning nursery volunteers, Wednesday night AWANA volunteers, and UPWARD volunteers!
    • Kids Life Group Leaders – Every week, caring volunteers teach children during our 9:30 and 11:00 am services using a fun, Bible-based curriculum. Life Group Leaders have a huge impact on the kids in our church—helping them learn God’s Word and grow in faith.
    • Nursery Volunteers – Each Sunday, our rotating team of nursery volunteers cares for our youngest children, showing them the love of Jesus while parents enjoy worship at the 9:30 or 11:00 am services.
    • AWANA – AWANA is our kids’ discipleship program that meets on Wednesday evenings during the school year. Children learn God’s Word, memorize verses, play games, and build strong friendships. There are many roles for volunteers—teachers, listeners, helpers, and recreation leaders.
    •  Upward Sports Ministry – Upward basketball and cheerleading is one of our biggest ministries! Volunteers help shape young players by coaching or assisting in coaching them, teaching skills on the court, and biblical principles for life. Other roles include refereeing, keeping score, selling concessions, and setting up for games.
    • Special Events – Throughout the year, we host exciting events to encourage and connect with families—like our Easter Egg Hunt, Summer VBS, and Fall Festival. Volunteers help set up, serve food, engage with kids and families, and make these events unforgettable!
  • Student Ministry* - Opportunities to serve include Wednesday and Sunday night volunteers, as well as special event volunteers.
    • Sunday Morning Bible Study (SMBS) Teachers – Each Sunday morning the students hear a lesson taught during the 9:30 am service. We are looking for men who are excited to teach the
Word and relate the stories of the bible to the lives of our students. We use Lifeway curriculum to guide teachers in studying and preparing their lessons.
    • Sunday Night Student Gathering – This time serves as the traditional youth gathering – playing games, worship through song, hearing the Word preached, then more games and hangout time to
finish the night. I would love for adults to join us and connect with the students! Play games, chat, and catch up on life, all of it, so that our students may be connected and feel welcome in the
student ministry. We meet each Sunday night from 5:00-7:00 pm.
    • Wednesday Night Student Life Groups – Our students gather and break into life groups based on class and gender. There are four groups: middle school and high school boys, and middle school
and high school girls. Adult leaders are the backbone of these groups. We teach through another Lifeway lesson guide and encourage discussion and conversation that revolves around the lesson
or topics of life. It is my desire for students to talk about their walks with God and their day-to-day lives. This time is great for leaders to meet the students at a personal level and support them.
These groups meet when AWANNA meets, 6:00-7:30 pm.
    • Special Events – Our student ministry has periodic trips and events where volunteers are needed to help! We go out of town for some day trips during the summer, camp for five days,
and retreat for a weekend. We also stay in town for Dnow weekend, Middle School Mission Week, pool parties, and a few other little events. These are great opportunities to connect with
students and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

*All areas in which you work with children require you to attend Oakhill for six months, and a background check must be completed.
